Maturity is learning to lie about your inner child, who is in fact just you.  :3

Buy a new console, it's the only thing that works... On a side-note, isn't this a little cruel? Of all the gameboy games out there... Did it HAVE to be Pokemon Yellow?

Makes me remember the days my depression was at its worst. One of the symptoms was that even playing Pokémon didn't interest at all. And being swallowed by a black hole in the chest describes that feeling all too well.

Sadly I understand. Even more sad is the fact that Pokemon isn't the only form of escapism.

This makes me so sad...there is a very melancholy tone to this. It's about missing childhood, not knowing how to escape, not being able to escape...

Perhaps art is an escape?

I know that black hole well, a little too well nowadays. If it's any help to you, the thing that helps me most is talking to friends about it. Not necessarily asking for help but just talking about what it feels like and how you feel about it and what you might do about it later.

Understanding that you as a person are a construction of your beliefs (and thus you can redifine yourself) can help. Sometimes taking an objectice look at the own person like it was someone else (not "you/me") can be beneficial. I find it to help in situations that seem depressing. But first it's good to take a long walk in my opinion.

I'm afraid to say there is no escape.
It only gets worse and worse, and the doctors say the pills will help, and they tell you that everything will get better, or that maybe going to church will help,
but none of it helps.

In spite of this though, I ask you to press on- If not for yourself: for your friends and family. The void might be all consuming, but the worst thing you could do is let it not only devour you whole, but use you to drag those  you care about down with you.

also? visit a petting zoo. I don't know if it'll help you, but the cute little animal thing works for some.

Thanks for the advice. It's not about escaping for me, I think it's more about coping. I've had my fair share of bad experiences I guess, and now it's time to accept them and move on. I'll be fine in the end, I know that about myself.

No offense, but you're wrong about that. There is a lot of evidence that medication and religious participation are great ways to combat depression. I say that from battling severe anxieties myself.
Look, LW, there is no shame in seeing a therapist of psychologist if you're feeling depressed.
There are also medications that can be prescribed to help as well. Contrary to popular belief (on the internet at least) but even minimal medication can completely turn someone's life around. You can ask the MILLIONS of people who take them, at least in here in America.
Depression is a physical illness, as much as any other.
Again, I'm talking from experience. Don't torture yourself man, there is always help.

I don't oppose the idea of taking medication for psychological treatment at all, but for me, I decided that I'm going to get out of the mud I'm stuck in on my own, even if it means a few more sleepless nights. I have the utter faith in myself that eventually I'll be able to move on, so don't worry about it.

Perhaps you are subconsciously creating a void that becomes increasingly harder to close the longer it says there.
While I cannot say if a cure for that exists, I can say that rediscovering who you are may patch up that gaping hole. After all, serving the army was something you were obligated to do.

Question is, do you wish to pursue it.

When you feel a hole inside your heart and chest — it means that something is wrong with your life. This is how you understand that you are ready to change everything. How to? You'll find, you just need to start searching.

I exist in the continuity between dimensions 0 and 10, so if that black hole swallows you, I can still carry your bones outta there. Rest assured, one way or another, your story won't die.

I gotta tell you, Everything you make is the most brilliant art I've ever seen. Every one of your pieces is you. I can't say I can understand life in the army but I can say that you help others understand your situation even if you show bits of it

i can relate to this because there are times where if i just want a break from my life i will play a game that i was very fond of from my childhood, but lately i just cant seem to do that for single player games, but lately it just feels off playing single player... i mean i know it can be fun, but for some reason i just want to play with my friends like when we play and hang out they help keep that dark hole at bay

You're my fucking hero, LW I love your art, Pokemon or no. Having joined the US Navy, I find myself with less time for stuff like this too, and it extends beyond video games. I don't draw hardly as much as I used to, and find myself not enjoying the things I used to do all the time. At first I thought I was depressed, but it's a part of growing up. They say your taste buds change every like seven years I think? I believe the same goes for your tastes, such as what you do for fun and even who you like to hang out with.

You'll figure it all out man take it easy.

I know that feeling...though every person experiences it differently. For me its like I can't continue playing by myself anymore. I need a friend to play with to fully experience what I used to experience by myself. Like I can't stand doing this alone anymore.

I can relate to this on so many levels. Some days I'm able to pick the games up. Other days, that black hole get really really close to swallowing me, along with my sanity.
